The Delhi food chronicles

Just got back from the most gratifying, delightful food trips of my otherwise, uneventful existence. And boy, what fun it was!

Delhi street food needs no introduction. Every foodie's unlimited-buffet-unlimited-capacity dream come true. And for a wannabe food-lover like myself, it was no different.

My sister-in-law's mom set the food expectations sky high, the last trip when she fed me the most inexplicably sumptuous shahi paneer that, I've started to actually like the dish I once would ignore on a dinner menu.

I could go on forever about her culinary skills, and the best part being I've gorged only on her vegetarian offerings so far!

As my sister-in-law and her sister had taken the friday off from work, a trip to Roshan Di Kulfi was planned along with some late afternoon shopping at Karol Bagh. Not in that order though.

A historic, inconspicuous establishment, it's appearance(much like the size of the chole bathure) can be deceptive. Seating about 30 folks at a time, it feels like there are a lot more at any time. It doesn't have the smoky, earthy charm like the galis in say Chandni Chowk, but it's renowned and a popular joint nonetheless. Anyway, over to the food.

The famous chole bathure didn't disappoint. The stuffed bhathura was fluffy, and surprisingly not oily. The chole was a tad spicy, but the strips of ginger spread over it was a unique combination. The achaar was a nice add-on as well.

My only problem with chole bathure as a dish is it fills you up real quick, and that probably ruined my experience here as well.

The gol-guppas were moderately explosive. Coming from
a place where there are a handful of places where you get decent ones, it was a tick mark as far as good gol-guppas were concerned. It was probably the heaviness of the choles, that didn't excite me of having a go at a few more. I needed something sweet.

The real magic came next, the kulfi falooda. A palm size plate of yellow heaven hiding a dollop of milky, white kulfi. As much as I remember the falooda, it was the kulfi that was quite special. For a place that's nestled amongst all the jewelry and garment shops, it really stands out because of this one dish. An absolute must try!

Gravity was some watch!

Finally got around to seeing Gravity. In IMAX 3D to be precise. And what an immersive experience it was. Many of us may never get to go to outer space, but that was probably the closest we could do.

If Sandra Bullock doesn't win an Oscar for this, obviously I haven't seen any of the other contenders.
Especially, the last 20minutes is just riveting stuff.

Was it just me or the scene where she crawls on to the sand, trying to pick herself up pretty symbolic of the cycle of evolution. For someone who's using the trapped cocoon like environment in space to run away from her problems, I thought that scene was shot just beautifully depicting a new lease of life, without human contact to rescue her which would have spoilt it I feel.

Brilliant direction and a great background score to boot as well.
Top, top movie.
